The first edition of the European Rainbow Cities conference was also held in Barcelona on the 14th and 15th of October 2010, within the framework of the European project AHEAD (Against Homophobia local European Administration Devices) co-funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Justice, Freedom and Security
The aims of this first conference were:
- To analyse the current situation regarding homophobia and transphobia in the European Union.
- To disseminate municipal anti-homophobia and transphobia public policies on a local level.
- To identify the main challenges of local anti-homophobia public policies.
- Promote dialogue between local administrations, experts and associations of lesbians, gays, trans and bisexuals ( LGTB ) about anti-homophobia and transphobia public policies.
The main aim of the AHEAD project consisted in collating examples of local administration good practice, including actions, tools and methodologies employed to combat LGBTIphobia from countries in the European Union. One of the outcomes of the AHEAD project was the publication of the European White Book “Combating homophobia. Local policies for Equality on the grounds of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity”.
