The second European Rainbow Cities conference will take place in Barcelona on the 20th and 21st of May 2016. Held within the framework of the commemoration of the International Day against Homophobia, this event aims to be a space for meeting and to engage in debate and exchange about local anti-LGBTIphobia policies. The conference is being organized by the University of Vic- University of Central Catalonia with the participation of Barcelona City Counci, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Government of Catalonia.
As with the first conference held in 2010, the aim is to have a broad focus. This time the focus will be on emerging fields in relation to local LGBTI policies (policies addressing the trans collective and experiences in non-metropolitan settings) and to continue to generate interesting debate about the challenges that LGBTI equiality policies face. Therefore, the objectives of this conference are:


  • To reflect on trans-inclusive policies
  • To share experiences of local LGBTI equility policies outside metropolitan areas
  • To reflect on the new challenges of LGBTI equality policies
